What is a Content Strategist?

Content Strategy isn’t just about being able to write a killer blog post (though that’s definitely part of the job). You also have to understand how that killer blog post can go viral on social media, have a through-the-roof clickthrough rate on search engines, and ultimately push a client towards their goals.

A Content Strategist can write well, while also understanding the critical impact that excellent writing and a well-executed marketing plan has on a brand and a company. A Content Strategist can create engaging content in any voice for any medium, all while ensuring each piece fits together as part of an overall strategy—a strategy that they help guide and craft for the client. They look at the big picture and arrange the puzzle pieces for success before they ever begin to pick up a pen or strike a key. And they’ve got an entire closet full of every kind of hat imaginable—everything from Derby-worthy fascinators to bright yellow hard hats—so they can fit in and play the part in any industry and for any audience.

Because they understand the whole marketing mix, a Content Strategist is just as comfortable having a beer & brainstorm session with a group of designers as they are asking insightful questions in the corporate boardroom. Bottom line is, they bridge the gap and forge the path between the client’s goals and aspirations and a successful creative campaign.
